In round 6 of the Groningen Chess Festival, the leading players finally took a break: the games between Evgeny Romanov and Valery Kazakouski and between Dengla Aarav and Sergei Tiviakov both ended in quick draws. The Indian Panda Sambit made good use of this, catching up with Romanov and Kazakouski with a victory over Nikola Kanov, after an endgame he had been grinding to the bone. Of the Dutchmen, Dimitri Reinderman and Rick Lahaye did well: they climbed up to shared fourth place by defeating Arthur de Winter and Eelke de Boer respectively. They are half a point behind the leading trio who are on five points.
